Can you keep a SECRET??

I can’t…well I can to a point, but this is not the secret keeping kind…guess where I’m going for Christmas……are you done guessing yet?? I’M GOING TO NEW YORK!!!! So do you have any ideas of where we all should go?? It’s going to be my folks, brother, and myself. So where should we go. Real places, I know Broadway, Time Square, Ground Zero, and all of the popular joints…but do you know any “undiscovered” places? Just wondering. Okay, back to the stupid paper…

Super excited,
Melinda

One more time.

I love to dance. I know that I cannot because I am genetically challenged. No biggie, but I will still dance. Put on anything with a beat and I will dance. Put a glass of alcohol in my hand and I will more than likely ask you to dance…or go up to someone else to dance if you won’t. I will dance to popish type music, to “robotic” type music, but my FAVORITE type is country. 1. Because you cannot really dance alone, (unless it’s a line dance, but still there is a line of people out there)… and 2. Because I have to release any and all control. (Something that I really have not mastered yet.) So anyways, a group of us went out last night, and I had a blast. We went to dinner and then to Red River. It was fun and I only let one secret slip. HA! Only ONE! So there, I didn’t really drink much at all, and in my opinion, it wasn’t much of a secret. :) But anyways, after closing the place down, we went to a friend’s house to play a game or two of pool. And at the 3:30 mark, I decided that after saying that I was going to leave, that I would really and truly leave. But it was fun…wish I would do that more often. Not the whole 3:30 thing, but the going out with friends. When you go away for a long time and don’t hang much to any at all and when you come back you remember how much fun it used to be. I guess absence really does make the heart grow fonder. So I guess I just wanted to say thanks for a great time guys! I hope that you all are feeling better, and we’ll have to do it again. Soon. Okay, well I’m back to this stupid paper. Peace out.

Spin me one more time,
Melinda

A new record.

It is 1:10 p.m. on November 24, 2005 in the year of our Lord and the Robie family is done! I know…I know you are jealous. Normally we are sitting down to the Thanksgiving table right about now to eat our turkey, but since we are missing a few key players in the game of life, we were able to have the food on the table at noon, be done by noon-thirty, and be cleaned up by 1. Now that is the upside of only feeding three. The downside is that the taunting was at a minimum, the fighting about stupid things was not present, and the being sent to one’s room because one could not/would not eat whatever was on one’s the plate didn’t happen.

All I can say is step over Martha Stewart….there is a new multi-tasker in town…and it’s ME!! :)

Well, I hope you all have/had a great Thanksgiving…and if you didn’t get enough at your house, we have plenty of leftovers!!! Okay, well I’m going to take my nap now…sleep tight!

Talk to you later, Love you. Bye,
Melinda

HAPPY TURKEY DAY

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! I hope that everyone gets their fill of turkey (or turkey puree), mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie!!! If you need any more, I will be cooking too much food at my folk’s house in Houston. So stop on by, you can have anything you want…except for the mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, black olives, and pumpkin pie…they are ALL mine! :) I hope that you have a great and wonderful holiday!!

Wishing you a happy turkey day,
Melinda

P.S. I am thankful for my family and you… what are you thankful for?

I have been replaced.

After some prodding yesterday, I finally found out that Dale and Judy found someone to replace me, and I was excited. They never really said when she would start, just “Soon.” So this morning, after packing my mom’s car up with everything I arrived at work 2 minutes late to find someone sitting in my chair. Okay, so normally I’m not really that possessive, but come on…it has been my chair for the past year, and it will continue being my chair until the 9th. So anyways, she’s really nice. Her name is Carry (I think…) and she’s learning quickly (I hope.). But then again, today was payroll cutoff, so there wasn’t much work for her to play on being that everything was done, so instead I showed her how to link. IT WAS GREAT. She sat at the computer and linked old timesheets while I cleaned up my uncompleted projects before she could complain about my lack of completeness. Dale seems to like her because he only cut in twice during the four hours of my training to ramble on about something…which is completely normal for him. :) But at the same time it kind of hit home that I really am leaving this place. Now granted I have complained and told TRUE stories about these people, but I do love them and they are my family. Of the 3 ½ years here in Nac, 3 of those years were spent in this office. But don’t get me wrong, I am going to completely enjoy my last week of school without work. To force yourself out of bed to go to an office at 8am and tell yourself, I’m doing this for the money…I need to eat real food. Come on…after the 2nd day of that 1st year it got a little old. So I will gladly train my replacement, I will help her understand all the ins and outs of the job so that in 16 days when I am walking out of those front doors, she can do my job even better than I could. I love being replaced.

Easily replaceable…but hard to forget,
Melinda

Too much CRAP

Okay, it’s not really crap per say. It’s more an accumulation of memories in the physical form. A physical form that I am trying to fit into the back of my mom’s Highlander. And I’m tired and bored with this. After 3 hours of packing…and repacking I’m done. Now granted my house is nowhere near empty, but it’s a little barer. I didn’t get to pack any dishes, nor did I remove any large pieces of furniture. But all the little breakable stuff, all my old text books and notes (yes I kept those), and all of my shoes and clothes that I no longer wear due to the colder weather are gone. So I guess my goal of having my house cleaned out by Thanksgiving except for the bare essentials is no longer attainable. I will have to talk my folks into renting a U-haul type thing, because I still have too much crap. That’s going to be fun. :) And that means after graduation having to play pack up the house with my father, brother, and whomever else wanting to join in on the fun that is the Robie family stress party…it’s going to be great. (Can you sense the sarcasm!!!) But anyways…I need not to worry about that right now…I have another 25 days before even contemplating that fun. For now I have to find someone to rent this house. Do you know anyone that wants to rent this wonderful abode for $200 a month??

Sore all over,
Melinda

Tonsils….be gone!

Dear Lord,

Please watch over my sister this morning as she goes under the knife. Please let the surgeon’s hands be steady and swift. Please let her have a peaceful sleep and awake in no pain. Please help her heal quickly so that she doesn’t eat all of her ice cream, and has some to share with her sister when she comes to visit… :) Thank you.

In Your name I pray, Amen.

Product sampling

For the past few days I have been under-the-weather, and it sucks. I have been the guinea pig for new meds, and I don’t really know if they are working. But I tend to believe so. For example, I had a soar throat starting Wednesday. I went to Walgreen’s twice and picked up Halls Defense Drops, and when those didn’t really make a difference I went back and picked up some Zicam spray. That stuff is da’ bomb. :) You spray 4 squirts of this stuff in your mouth every three hours. It tasted gross, left a funny after taste, but I think that it worked. My throat quit hurting, my nose started to run, and my cold was moving fast. (In my opinion). I don’t know…so then today, after some advice from my mother, I went and picked up some Mucinex. You may not know the name but you know the commercial. It’s that gross one where there is a little snot man that moves into the lungs of this guy. Well anyways, I picked up some of that…but nothings really happening…that I know of. So I sit here at the computer with Vics on my nose, praying that this goes away before Turkey Day…because if not, that will just plain suck. Okay enough of my rant about nothing…hope you don’t get sick! Have a great weekend!! Bye.

Just a little stuffy,
Melinda

I am truly blessed.

It is the truth. I am amazed of where I am today. I am graduating in 33 days with my masters. I have accepted a job offer at a great Accounting firm in Houston and I am excited to start there in January. My current position in Payroll, even though I may complain about it, I will miss this great family that I have learned to love over the past 3 years. I have a great network of friends that no matter where we are in life will always be there. I have a wonderful family that no matter what will always support me. I am truly blessed. None of this I have done on my own. God has placed each and every person and opportunity here for a reason. No matter how much I may claim is my plan, it’s not. So I wanted to thank you, yes even you reading this now for the first time :), thank you for your time, your thoughts, and your kind words. Without you, I would not be me. So thank you. I don’t know why I have been searching for so long for that “one” person to fill my life with joy when I have so many people around that already fulfill me. I am blessed because of you.

Forever thankful,
Melinda

Frosties and Popcorn

Today for lunch I asked Dale to pick me up a small Frosty from Wendy’s when he got his lunch. He gleefully complied and less than 10 minutes later he came back with a wonderful, chocolaty ice cream delight. And then, during my first bite, I was all of a sudden transported back to the late eighties and early nineties. You know…before Matthew knew that Michelle and I were pure evil, when he would let us dress him up (in girly clothes) and he didn’t care, when it was cool (for him) to have older sisters! :)

Every Sunday night at the Robie household, my dad would go to Wendy’s while my mom would pull out the old popcorn popper. We would find some movie, either on T.V., like Neverending Story or something that we recorded off of HBO when we had it for “free” in California, like Star Wars. We would all curl up with our own huge bowls of popcorn with more popping in the background, our own frosty, I normally had my huggy pillow and blankey, and we'd all settle in for a good time.

As I sit here, enjoying my frosty, I long to go back those twenty years. When I could just curl up with a bowl of popcorn and a frosty and not have to worry about the additional calories in this bite, or wonder when my sedentary lifestyle will fully catch up with me, or if this $100 bridesmaid dress will even need to be altered. When life scared me, like the wolf in Neverending Story or Darth Vader, I could hide under my blanket and I was safe. I didn’t have to worry about passing Cost, graduating, deciding which offer to accept, if I'm even going to marry, or what I’m going to do for the rest of my life. When dreams were never ending. I miss those days and I long for my carefree life that I had. I wait with great anticipation for the day that when I fall asleep, my mind will stop running and my dreams will be peaceful. But that’s a little too deep for you into my psyche. Anywoo...I guess what I’m saying is that I cherish those Sunday nights many years ago and I can’t wait to have my own family, because we will be having a Sunday night movie night…screw the calories.

In retrospect, I wonder, could the old movie night and my mother’s compulsive movie purchasing be correlated? I wonder if that’s her way of reliving the past…odd, I never really thought about that until now. Well that’s all I have for now…I’m spent and it’s only Tuesday.

Well I hope you have a wonderful day and Amanda Sue, HAPPY BIRTHDAY (tomorrow)!!!

Wishing they made fat free Frosties,
Melinda
